It's always nice getting an unexpected parcel through the post. When there are foreign stamps attached, then the intrigue gets a bit more. When it's opened and it's Slitz magazine from Sweden, we'll be honest work came to a grinding halt for a while this afternoon. It's not on our regular reading list, mainly due to our limited grasp of the language but everyone can enjoy the pictures, they're universal in their appeal.

It was their run down of the "Things To Look Out For in 2012" which really caught our eyes though, especially when we spotted Peaceful Hooligan amongst the contenders!

Nice one for the inclusion gents and thanks for the calendar too, it's pride of place in the office!

We've just spotted that the kind folk at thecagoule.com have just voted our Head Jacket the best cagoule of 2011! A big thank you to them for their kind words, I think I'm right in saying that James at The Cagoule picked up both colours when he was shown the jacket by our pals at Terraces Menswear.

Dressers - The Book

We were going to write a little bit about the new 'Dressers'‎ book, documenting the exploits of Motherwell's Saturday Service. We were going to and then read this from Soul Crew Co-Author, Tony Rivers. We think it says it all...

"Dressers is the definitive must-read book of the UK's most important working class subculture of the last 30 years. The story of the everyday football casual from it's early 80's genesis, dovetailing alongside some occasional violence through to their other love, house music parties, this was(and still is)life for thousands of like-minded males and as proved in this fascinating account, The Motherwell Saturday Service played a big part in proceedings. I always found the Scottish casual scene particularly interesting. Ironically the term 'Dressers' was the only nomenclature I associated with the scene during the mid 80s.'Casuals'to me was definitely Scottish terminology. The fact that Aberdeen prided themselves on being the first in Scotland matters not a jot. The first hand accounts and photographic imagery in Dressers are among the best i've seen on the subject. In my experience following Cardiff City and witnessing almost every mob there is, it's the tighter knit, smaller club firms that are often the best dressed and the gamest. The literature and photos ably provided by the authors prove that point. When I co-wrote Soul Crew, we were the first in the country to delve into the obsession of Dressing and we are proud of that legacy, but what Ricky, Matt and Kerso have done is given probably the most accurate portrayal of the era alongside the finest year by year illustrations I've seen. As important a social document as any on the history of Casuals. A must-read."

We've just seen some kind words on The Cagoule blog about our new Head jackets. For anyone unfamiliar with the blog, this guy really knows his stuff about fowl weather gear. So as you can imagine we're pretty chuffed that he took the time out to visit Terraces in Stoke and spent his hard earned on our version of a classic smock. Not just that, but he grabbed both colours, grey and black. Not a bad shout really, as these beauties are moving fast now the wet weather has kicked in.

For that reason here at Peaceful Hooligan HQ we have decided to extend our returns policy so anything ordered between now and Christmas Eve can be sent back to us anytime before Monday 9th January, 2011. That way the prudent shoppers amongst you can get all their shopping done, safe in the knowledge that if the lucky recipient doesn't like what's under the tree, the kit can be sent back after Christmas for an exchange or refund. This post is a little late, we know. We've been busy packing orders since the new collection went live on Sunday (or was it Monday? Over the bank holiday at some point anyway). We've caught up again now though, so back to business.

It's been a while in development but we're pleased to announce that our new collection is now live on our site and on the shelves of a few selected retailers throughout the nation. We've stuck to what we know best, great fabrics, developing print techniques, attention to detail through trims and quality finishing. The stuff we look for when we're buying kit really.

We'll be taking delivery of new jackets over the next few weeks too, all constructed in the UK to our exact specification. Not to mention a few very special collaborations later in the year...

Autumn/Winter 2011 - Photoshoot

It's non-stop for us here at Peaceful HQ at the moment. With the biggest SALE in our history in full swing, we're clearing the way in the stock room for the imminent arrival of what we think is our best collection to date, Autumn/Winter 2011.

In preparation for the new arrivals we were out and about photographing the AW11 collection on Friday last week. We're hoping the kit's going to get a bit of attention in the coming months, but hopefully not from the Old Bill like it did on Friday. Maybe the Boys in Boy wanted to get a preview of the photos before anyone else.

Undeterred, our man Alec Dudson (previously featured in the blog for his interview with Dazed&Confused) continued snapping with some quality results. Here's a sample of the things to come from PH HQ. Good friend of our's here at PH HQ, Mark Chester has just released his best selling book Sex, Drugs and Football Thugs in electronic format. The eBook follows the exploits of Stoke City's notorious Naughty Forty firm on the road and is the follow up to Mark's original publication, Naughty (available as an eBook here).

Mark was one of the founding members of Stoke City's Naughty Forty firm, which followed the potteries club through the 1980s and 90s. He now puts his past experience to a more positive use in communities throughout the UK. Working with young people in schools, prisons and community projects, explaining the negative consequences of gang culture from his first hand experiences. His work with young people who are at risk of social exclusion and involvement in crime, particularly Gang Culture and Football Hooliganism, has seen massive support from Football Clubs, Universities and celebrities alike as his past experiences and on going work with the community have made Mark an expert on the causes and consequences of gang culture. Alec Dudson x Dazed & Confused

Towards the tail end of last week the Dazed & Confused newsletter dropped into the PH inbox. Nothing unusual there, but as I glanced through the name Alec Dudson caught my eye. Alec's a good pal of ours you see and he's been spending the last year or so travelling the globe photographing whatever gets in his way before returning back to Manchester to showcase his findings. Although, he explains it a lot better in the interview here.

Here at PH HQ we like to think we have our finger on the pulse of clothing and music, so after we posted a link to their new video on Facebook and got swamped with questions, we have thought we'd have a chat with Ryan Dooley from our current favourite band All the Young and put a few questions to him.

Thanks for talking to us Ryan; this seems to be All The Young's year, held in high regard by the nations press and taking towns and cities up and down the country by storm. Can you explain what the band is about and what its like to start getting the recognition you deserve?

I suppose this band is about putting on good live shows and writing the kind of songs that people can 'go wild and release' to. Life isn't about telling it like it is 24/7, sometimes it's about telling it how it could and should be. It's been amazing to get recognised by the press like we have, we didn't really see that coming at all. Gordon Smart from The Sun came to one of our shows and was really enthusiastic about it and he's been full of praise since. I wouldn't like to think that we deserve it even though we've worked really hard. You don't get anything in life unless you go at it 'tooth and nail' and that right there is what this band is all about.

Having just supported Brother on their tour and now headlining your own tour, what have been the best gigs you have played this year so far and why?

We really enjoyed playing Glasgow with Brother and by ourselves cos it's such a great city, the atmosphere is killer. Playing in Manchester to 150+ people at our own gig was pretty wild as well, that's the first time we've drawn such a crowd outside of Stoke-on-Trent so needless to say we were buzzing afterwards!

We've heard that living legend Morrissey turned up at your last Camden gig and held court backstage. How was it to receive the stamp of approval from the mighty quiffed one?

Meeting Mr Morrissey was absolutely out of this world and it all went by so fast. He was such a gentlemen and he only wanted to talk about All the Young rather than listen to how we adored his music. I thought that was very humble and very honest of him. We've been listening to his records since we were kids so to finally meet him and for it to be at one of our own shows is something that we'll never forget.

What music has inspired the band over the years? And what do you listen to in the van when you travelling from gig to gig? And is it a battle of everyone playing different things?

We range from Bob Dylan to LCD soundsystem. At times it is a battle but our drummer Will has the biggest iPod selection known to man so we all end up happy. We have quite similar tastes so 9 times out of 10 everyone is dancing!

With two brothers in the line up of the band, how do you feel that adds to the dynamic of the set up? Does it bring an extra level of passion and energy?

I think the passion and the energy comes from all 4 of us. We all live and breathe All the Young and it shows onstage. At times it's great to have 2 brothers who have been together through thick and thin. We make each other strong and it rubs off on the band as well. There are of course other times when every other person in the van would like to be in a 'Dooley free zone' for 5 minutes. We wouldn't have it any other way though!

All The Young herald from Stoke on Trent, a City, which has a strong electronic background particularly in the Nineties, but over the last decade the band scene, has blown up. How was it to be part of that scene and does where you're from influence your sound and what you write about?

Yeah, of course we are influenced by our surroundings. Personally I feel that there isn't a great deal to do in Stoke nowadays apart from going to watch football matches so youngsters don't have much of a release during the weekends. That kind of thing has inspired me while writing songs and hopefully something in the form of music can come to the forefront of Stoke-on-Trent again. It's an amazing city with a lot of potential and people forget that at times.

The video for new single 'Welcome home' is full of strong imagery and really says what All the young are about. Is it something you've eased into being in front of the camera, or are you more comfortable on stage instrument in hand?

We're really happy with the video and it was shot in Glasgow which is like a home from home for me and Jack! We've grown up all over the U.K so to catch some of the scenery that we did really made the video. The camera stuff takes time to get used to but it's all part and parcel of promoting your tunes. We all much prefer to be on a red-hot stage in a room full of people though. That kind of atmosphere is 2nd to none!

Finally, All the Young have a definitive style and look, what sort of clothes do you like to wear? Are you label orientated? If so what?

We think all the best bands are the ones that look like a gang, and although we've always had similar styles we think it's best if there's a point somewhere in the middle where we all meet. We like to keep it simple and smart. We're not brand orientated at all, if it looks good it doesn't matter where it's from. We have been known to rock Peaceful Hooligan on our days off mind!

A Guy Called Minty Interview

We are due to launch our much anticipated collaboration with A Guy Called Minty online this Sunday so we thought now would be a good time to catch up with the man himself to find out what makes him tick...

What’s your background in terms of art?
I have been drawing and painting since I can remember. After School and Art college I had a spell working for yellow pages designing adverts but it didn’t work out due to the commute. Since owning my own pad I have always kept my foot in the door in terms of creating art whether it be pen to paper or digitally on my mac so the desire to improve has always been there. Now currently freelance I can let my creative juices flow adding a bit of a distinctive edge so that my work can be recognised anywhere.

What’s the process that goes into making a painting, do you always have the finished article in your head when you start or do the pieces develop as you work on them?

I pretty much take inspiration from anywhere and everywhere. Whether it would be viewing other fellow artists work, browsing the world wide web or watching reruns of Auf Wiedersen Pet. I find that forcing the creation does not work for me. I can be sitting down for days thinking and sketching ideas that never see the light of day and then a day trip food shopping and staring at a box of persil can generate some of my best works...Sounds mad, I know but that’s just the way I see things. 99% of the time the idea from in my head has evolved and taking as far as I can to the finished painting.

I know what you mean, we have spent days on prints that we've never used, but knocked up some of our favourite images on the back of a fag packet while sitting in the boozer. The first works of yours we saw were the Casual figures wearing classic terrace wear like Milles and vintage Adidas. What got you into creating artwork around terrace culture?

I love art, football, fashion, music…film and the whole madchester scene. Always have a soft spot for classic humor so I wanted to adapt all these factors into my work. Being an artist there has been times where I have taken work that I have no interest in the subject and to be honest totally bores me but pays the bills. Back in xmas 2008…being made redundant and out of work I decided to create my first casual…and stick it on ebay and see what happens It Sold, happy days..The rest is history and here I am collaborating with Peaceful Hooligan.

If you could have any of the kit you’ve painting throughout you’re ‘Casuals’ series what would it be?

Jacket and Trainers speak volumes for me. My Favourite trainers would have to be Gazelle indoors. I have searched high and low for these and I have either been out bid or out priced but maybe one day I’ll own a pair.

“Always follow your local team” and that for me is Cardiff City….due to work I do not go down as often as I should.

What where the factors in making you want to collaborate with Peaceful Hooligan?

The whole brand I think is genius…from the logo to detailing in the clothing. If my artwork can help the popularity of the brand then that does it for me all day long.

As well as the collab, we are planning a competition to give away a portrait of the winner done by yourself. You’ve clearly got an amazing talent for portraiture, is it something you have always been into?

Portraiture artwork is something I have strived hard to be good at. I am massively into caricature art and follow artists all over the world thanks to social networking. Artist such as Jason Seiler, Seb kruber, Joe Bluhm, Paul Moyse. I can only dream to be as good as.

What do you get up to when you’re not in the studio?

Keeping fit and winding up my kids.

What does the future hold for ‘A Guy Called Minty’?

The Futures bright the futures…………I don’t know really. I dont have any master plan…..but just have an aspiration for my work to become popular nationally and internationally. That’s the whole reason behind the name “A guy called minty”. I sell a lot of work word of mouth… people always ask “where did you get this from” the reply is always “A guy called Minty”.

Our pals at Top Boys TV have been busy over the past few months traveling the length and breadth of Britain interviewing some of the most influential characters of Casual Culture over the last 30 years. The boys have just released the 6th short documentary on their YouTube channel, interviewing Nottingham Forest's Gary 'Boatsy' Clark about life in the notorious Executive Crew. The series has already seen Top Boys from West Ham, Millwall, Chelsea, Wolves and Tottenham talk about their experiences on the terraces, along with some never before seen footage direct from the makers of the original football culture documentary, Hooligan.

Sterling Re-Stock Just Landed

We've just received a fresh drop of Sterling Hoodies and t-shirts here at PH HQ. The simple styling and focus on fabric and detailing means these bits have become our wardrobe staples around these parts. The hoodies are fleece backed for extra warmth and finished with a tech style drawstring hood, while the heavyweight t-shirts are getting layered with shirts and knits to keep out the cold. We've kept the pallet pretty tight for now, with some brighter colours due to be added when the weather picks up and the layers come off.

So far it's been a busy January here at Peaceful HQ with planning for the year ahead and the SALE selling out fast, so we're a little bit behind on the old blogging front. Our new Sneak II jacket went on sale at 00:00 on the 29th December and the reaction has been phenomenal. All sizes excluding L are now completely out of stock, with only a couple of large remaining. Congratulations to the lucky few who managed to bag themselves a jacket in the early hours. Interview with Style Wars

Our pals at Style Wars over in Italy got in touch a couple of weeks ago to have a chat about the story behind Peaceful Hooligan, what we've got planned for the future and what makes us tick. The interview is included in the 5th issue of their online fanzine and is now available to read (if you can speak Italian, that is) by clicking here.

For those of you who aren't aware of Style Wars, it's a melting pot of all things 'casual' from clothing to music and of course football. Put together like a fanzine should be, bringing back memories of the original DIY mags of the 80's punk scene. Made out of a passion for the subject matter rather than a mission to grab advertisers pounds (or euros in this case). Keep up the good work lads.

Hot off the Press (last week)

It's been a hectic couple of weeks here at Peaceful Towers and we'll be the first to admit, we need to catch up on a bit of blogging. So over the next couple of days we'll try and re-cap on some of our goings on.

So first things first, last week we took a trip over to see the printers to restock our Mesh Dove hoodies and finalise our new Collegic hood too. The lads were a bit short staffed but as always did us proud, working through a few print ideas for next year and getting the hoods finished. They even had us helping out, pulling the finished pieces off the dryers as they came out.

The Peaceful Hooligan Casual by A Guy Called Minty

We've been watching 'A Guy Called Minty' document everything from music and sport to Star Wars for sometime now. But it's always been his images of casual culture that have really floated our boat above anything else, caricatured fellas in the finest casual garms from Mille Miglias to Fila Terrinda trackies, with an attention to detail you don't often see. So when the postie knocked on the door with this little gem in the week we knew we wouldn't be disappointed. The 'Peaceful Hooligan Casual' is wearing our very own Black Sneak jacket and PH bucket hat, painted using acrylics (we think) and the man's typical style. Fresh off the train from a photo shoot in London town, Jack from New Education dropped in at Peaceful HQ this evening to pick up a Sneak jacket and Mesh Dove t shirt for the band's headline gig at the Liverpool Academy on Friday night.

A few beers and a couple of smokes later and Jack had a bit of a battle with the front door's metal shutters on his way back into the office...

Made In England - First Jacket Samples

We have been on the look out for a British manufacturer to produce our outerwear for some time now, so when we found out about a little gem in the north-west we booked our appointment and got straight on the M6. We have just been back to the factory to pick up the first samples of the jackets and we were right to keep it British. We have got a selection of styles with taped seams, gummed zip and naughty hoods to look forward to.
